German President Joachim Gauck is planning to end his office. Among the reasons for his resignation therefore include Gauck advanced age and health problems.
One of the popular news papers BILD however cites that within political circles in Berlin, wants the 76-year-old this Gauck will on Monday meet with Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) in his official residence Bellevue Palace. Gauck will use this opportunity to explain to her, his reasons for not willing to continue in detail. Survey conducted recently shows that at least 70% of German Citizens want him to continue. Union Party, the SPD Party and Greens Party were in favour of a second term; Merkel also called for re-election.
