EX-MINISTER REQUESTS FOR REMOVAL OF IMMUNITY CLAUSE FOR ELECTED OFFICE HOLDERS

Labaran Maku, former Minister of Information while answering the the questions by newsmen inWakama, Akun Development Area of Nasarawa state called for the removal of immunity clause for elected officials in Nigeria constitution which he argued would help tackling corruption and ensuring good governance.

Maku categorically requested for the removal of the immunity which serves as an umbrella protecting the president, governors and local government chairmen while occupying the office which prevents them being prosecuted for any act of misconduct.
He said the clause is the reason some state governors' mismanage their state resources leading to underdevelopment at the grassroots. he said, “I believe that the immunity of state governors should be removed, no governor needs immunity and if it is removed, this will help to check fraud, corruption and mismanagement.”

The former minister also advised Nigerians to pray for better things in the New Year as well as pray for permanent peace to reign in the country.

He also asked Nigerians to pray for peace of the country "and give President Muhammadu Buhari the needed support and cooperation to enable him tackle the challenges facing the country."
