It was reported that El-Zakzaky escaped but was later found in hiding in a building in Zaria on Monday after sustaining injuries in the clash between the army and members of his sect, but the Nigerian Army have said that Zakzaky's injuries were not life threatening
Last weekend attack on the convoy of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai by the members of the sect on his way to attend the passing-out parade of the solders at the Nigerian Army Depot, Zari, was believed to have been deliberate.
The General Officer Commanding 1 Mechanized Division of the Nigeria Army, Kaduna, Maj-Gen. Oyebade, while defending the army's action said Zakzay was unhurt and he together with his wife were safe and in custody.
On the contrary, Ibrahim Musa, earlier said Sunday that the sect leader had sustained gunshot wounds after soldiers opened fire on his house and his followers who tried to protect it.
One of El-Zakzaky’s sons Sayyid; the sect’s deputy leader and the spokesman were all reportedly killed on Sunday.
