A 52-year-old man has been hospitalised by a psychiatrist because of his insistence that he became impregnated after he had a gay sex.

The unidentified man who already has 2 children is from Kozhikode in India. The man complained to the physicians that he was suffering stomach pains and that he could feel the baby moving in his stomach.

The head of Medical team said this is the first case of its kind he has seen. He admitted to doctors that his belief followed a homosexual encounter.
According to Times of India, the head of doctors, Dr. Kumar said the man: "was an active homosexual in his adolescent years which may contributed to his beliefs. But, his homosexuality did not affect his marriage

"Usually, we see couvade syndrome [otherwise known as sympathetic pregnancy] in some dads-to-be who show certain symptoms of pregnancy (like nausea, weight gain or sleep problems) when their partners get pregnant."

He said further that  there didn't seem to be any gender identity disorders and test results came back normal, despite the delusion which the patient's doctor said started six months ago.

"The patient went for counselling and took risperidone. This delusion was cured due to the medical intervention. After a series of counselling sessions, he stopped indulging in homosexual activities.

"Now, the patient is recovering and we are measuring his progress during periodic check-ups."
