Godswill Akpabio's election as the Senator representing Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District has been upheld by the Court of Appeal in Abuja on Friday.
Justice Abdul-Rahman Oredola in his judgement dismissed an appeal initially filed by Chief Inibehe Okori ( the "APC" senatorial candidate in the March 28, 2015 national elections), against the earlier judgement made in October 14, 2015 by the National and State Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja affirming Akpabio as the winner.
The Court of Appeal maintained that the allegations raised by Okorie against Akpabio lacked merits. All the issues formulated and presented by Okorie's side were thrown out.
Justice Oredola while reading the judgement said the last issue raised by Okori on Akpabio's non-qualification to contest for an election did not fall within the constitutional contemplation stipulating a candidate's requirements to contest an election.
