Last
Thursday, the People's Democratic Party members in the Upper House
of the National Assembly in Nigeria declined to give their support
to the appointment of an Ex-Governor of River State Rotimi Amaechi.
The
refusal by the senators in confirming his appointment was as a
result of the allegation levied against him by the Rivers State
Government, of gross mismanagement of public fund and resources
while in office. As a result of which the Senate Committee on Ethics,
Privileges and Public Petitions gave their recommendation after
investigating the allegation, and because the case is still in the
court; that the former governor should not be confirm as Minister of
the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The
ruling party however confirmed him as the minister after much
deliberation. But yesterday 3rd of November 2015 when the
legislators seat again and the Senate President asked a member of the
opposition party to second the motion for the adoption of last proceeding, the
legislator refused to do so on the ground that he was not present
at the time the motion was adopted. The members of
the ruling party, APC , adopted the last proceedings while the
opposition party refused to do same.
