The northern governors have vowed to nib the terrorist group, Boko Haram in the bud and also to have a cordial relationship among the people of different sections of the region to enhance greater unity and also to fight poverty among the populace.
This Pledge was made yesterday at Wannune, Tarka local Government Area of Benue State, by the Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum and Borno State Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, who led two other governors of the forum to pay a condolence visit to Senator George Akume, who recently lost his elder brother and paramount ruler of Tarka, the late Chief Gabriel Indyer Akume.
The Northern Governor Forum Chairman who was accompanied by the Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State and National Assembly lawmakers from the north, said the visit to Benue and Akume family is to demonstrate the unity and harmony of the region.
Senator Akume however expressed his gratitudes, stating that the visit brought comfort to him with the assurance that he had friends who could stand by him in his period of grief and need.
Shettima said: “The leaders of the north would not relent until peace is fully restored in the troubled spots of the north just like our joint resolve to overcome poverty in the north will continue to enjoy top priority.”
The governor asked for the patience and understanding of the people. He assured them that everything was being done by the governments of the northern region to ensure sustainable economic growth in the area.
