The presidency has responded to the media reports going round that President Muhammadu Buhari has approved a decrease in salaries and allowances for newly appointed Nigeria ministers.
Garba Shehu, the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, has said on Saturday that the president has not touched the salaries and allowances of ministers.
However,he said the President and the Vice President have voluntarily offered a 50 percent salary cut.
“This is voluntary and does not apply to Ministers and other political appointees. Reports to the effect that the President has imposed an austere package on the ministers are unknown to us,” Shehu said.
Shehu said the salaries and allowances of the ministers still remain the way they were prescribed by the Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Commission under a 2008 law .
