DAVID MARK'S ELECTION NULLIFIED

A Court of Appeal in Makurdi, Benue State, has nullified the election that brought David Mark in as the Senator for Benue South senatorial district, and the court has ordered a fresh election be conducted in 90 days.

Mark was declared as the winner of the March 28 election in Benue Zone C senatorial district ahead of former president of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Daniel Onjeh of the All Progressive Congress.
He had 99,583 votes, while Onjeh got 50,115 votes.

Onjeh, however, challenged the election results in court, claiming that it was marred by irregularities, ballot snatching and manipulation of figures.

Senator David Mark has been in the since 1999. He was a floor member for eight years and the Senate President from 2007 to 2015.

Onjeh’s petition had earlier been dismissed on October 6, by the National and State assembly election petitions tribunal sitting in Makurdi claiming he failed to establish a case against Mark.
