Omeife: An Herbalist

Francis Omeife, an herbalist, who allegedly held a woman hostage spiritually for over five years was  nearly lynched yesterday by angry mob at Okpoko, Ogbaru local government area of Anambra state, near onitsha.

According to the woman, Omeife's crime was revealed by the woman when she reported to her friend that she had seen part of her underwear among other female pants the herbalist had gathered to use for rituals. Omeife was accused of using ladies’ underwear, children toys, human hair, shoes, clothes, for ritual purposes.
The woman simply identified simply as Chioma, had allegedly gone to the herbalist’s house at a place known as 1 Ezeakunne street, and had stumbled upon a pot of herbal mixtures, and on closer inspection, had identified her underwear and some others. She attracted neighbours when she let out a piercing scream, and they also identified some of their personal effects.

The herbalist allegedly struggled with the women, as they tried to recover their items, which prompted the youth in the area to intervene. Omeife was given a thorough beating and was about to be set on fire, when a group of boys believed to be members of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), came to his rescue.

The suspected herbalist allegedly confessed to journalists present, that the items were actually used for rituals, and that his powers were gotten from the marine world, and were used to make women menstruate without ceasing.

The herbalist’s belongings were set ablaze, after which he was banished from the community.
