#65BILLION TO BE SLASHED FROM NATIONAL ASSEMBLY, INEC, AMNESTY, OTHERS IN 2016 BUDGET

Image Results for "images of Nigerian coat of arm"The Federal Government is anticipating a reduction of #65.28 billion in the 2016 budgetary allocation to the National Assembly, INEC , the Presidential Amnesty Programme as part of attempts to reduce governance cost in 2016 fiscal year, .

The Federal Government is  proposing a reduction of #43.28billion ( 68.39% )in budgetary allocation for the Presidential Amnesty Programme from #63.28billion to #20billion.

The cut down in the budget by the Federal Government are expected to be #17billion in the budgetary allocation to INEC from#62billion approved in the 2015 fiscal year to #45billion. which would be a decline of 26.1% compared to what it got in 2015 year.


It was also revealed that as at September this year, only #31billion out of INEC’s 2015 budgetary allocation of #62billion was released to the commission.

For the National Assembly, the Federal Government is proposing a cut of N5billion or 4.2% reduction from #120billion in 2015 to #115billion in 2016.

It was also learnt that , the Federal Government as at the end of September only released #74.66billion to NASS for this year out of the approved #120billion.

Other agencies to have their budgetary allocation cut in 2016 include; National Judicial Council from #73billion to #70billioillion; Public Complaints Commission from #4billion to #2billion and the Human Rights Commission from #1.52billion to #1.2billion.

The Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, said, “In the few weeks I have spent as the Minister of Finance, it has become clear that without a radical intervention to manage the costs of government, no meaningful improvement in our nation will be forthcoming.’’

She had eralier asked the inaugurated Efficiency Unit in November 2015 to assist the government in reducing the cost of governance to reduce the effects of corruption resulting from inefficiency and wastages.

Details of the cut captured in the Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper for 2016 to2018 which is expected to be disclosed on Tuesday when President Muhammadu Buhari would present the 2016 budget before the National Assembly.
